How to activate/register Cisco ASAv license in the cloud environment

This article will walk you thru on how to activate the BYOL Cisco ASAv in Azure or AWS.  Once you have the Cisco ASAv configured and working then you need to make sure that is properly activated otherwise it will only provide partial activity.

Please also not that the prerequisite to this is that you have already purchased the license which is then available at https://software.cisco.com/  – you will need your Cisco CCO login to get the code that you will need to install in the Cisco ASAv.

Login to you Cisco ASAv and run the show license summary command to see the details and if the license was applied correctly then you should see the following


Here are the steps the get the Cisco ASAv activated

Please note that you should be able to ping tools.cisco.com on port 443 and in order to do that you will need to add the following commands – you will need to add the IP  that resolves to tools.cisco.com by using the name command – below is the example

“name tools.cisco.com”

Once you are able to ping by using the host name tools.cisco.com on port 443 then you can start the registration process – The token is valid for days that you input when you generate the token

  1. run the following command “license smart register idtoken xxxxxxxx” input the token that you generate from the “https://software.cisco.com/” site     
  2. run this command to set the tier type “feature tier standard”
  3. set the speed by using the following command ” throughput level” options are 100 MB, 1 GB and 2 GB
